Dr McCamey’s research aims to identify, characterize and control the many ways that electrons move and interact in electronic materials and devices. The impact that complex electronic products, such as mobile phones, have had on modern society is immense. His work is important as it allows him to determine what limits the efficiency of devices such as solar cells and light emitting diodes, and provide a roadmap for improving them. He is particularly interested in electrically conducting plastics, because I can work with chemists to modify their structure and improve devices made from them.
Dane has driven coverage of his research in the media such as ABC News Radio, US National Public Radio (NPR) and MIT Technology Review. He has also been called upon for expert comment from organisations such as Nature News and IEEE Spectrum. Dane has undertaken a collaborative interactive work with sculptor Chris Fox entitled “The Grid” which was shown at the ICDYAP: Culture Lab, which involved over 300 participants actively engaging with the piece to explore the idea of creativity within a rules based framework (aka sneaky science outreach).
