Jan is a psychologist with research experience in child development, psychology and public health, including the coordination of longitudinal studies and randomised, controlled trials.
Jan became an Associate Professor at Griffith University in 2006, and in 2008 became Honorary Principal Research Fellow, School of Population Health at the University of Melbourne.
