Joanne is studying the relationship between what happens underneath the earth’s tectonic plates and the formation of land masses on the surface. Her work has implications for climate change because as rocks breakdown in the high atmosphere, the process reduces atmospheric CO2. Currently she is focussed on the formation of the Himalayas and Tibet, the world’s largest elevated landmass, to help develop more accurate CO2 and climate models.
