2024 Florey Next Generation Awards
The AIPS Florey Next Generation Award (formerly CSL Florey Next Generation) is a new award conferred to a current PhD candidate who has demonstrated outstanding capability, creativity and potential in the biomedical sciences and/or health and medical research. This award was developed from the earlier CSL Young Florey Medal.
The AIPS Florey Next Generation Award includes a $20,000 prize, and two runner-up prizes of $2,500 each.
The 2024 Florey Next Generation winner is Luis Garcia Marin. Congratulations!
Dr Yin Yuan and Chelsea Mayoh were selected as the 2024 Florey Next Gen runners up.
FAQs
The nominee must be currently undertaking a Phd in a Medical Research arena.
Within an organisation, each institute/department is limited to 2 nominations, with 1 to be for a female researcher.
The 2024 Florey Next Generation application is an online form.
You can press SAVE at any point and return to the form.
If prompted to log on to Jotform with a Google account etc press the "Skip Create an Account" and add your email address to receive your application link.
The information you add to the form will not be sent to AIPS until the SUBMIT button has been pressed. Once submitted you will receive an email confirmation and copy.

To be nominated we require a completed, submitted nomination form.
Please ensure you adhere to the word limits as stated on the nomination form. Exceeding these limits may result in your nomination being deemed ineligible.
Where possible also include work and private email addresses.
Entries with insufficient documentation or partially filled nomination forms will not be considered.
Submitted material will not be returned.
Selection criteria are based on the following:
- Potential impact for your research and its application in the medical field.
- Your demonstrated research engagement and communication skills as demonstrated through your 90 second video - see next point.
- A 90 second video where you describe the significance of your research.
- This video should be uploaded to YouTube as a private video in addition to your application and CV.
- Your publication record.
- Awards or prizes.
Nominations will be judged by a selection committee against the selection criteria listed above.
Finalists are required to:
- attend the award dinner (ASMR gala dinner in Adelaide).
- be listed on the AIPS website and made mention on AIPS social media channels.

Previous Florey Next Generation Winners
The winner of the 2022 CSL Florey Next Generation Award was Chloe Yap from Mater Research, University of Queensland.
The two finalists were:

- Jose Alquicira Hernandez – The Garvan Institute of Medical Research
