Research field: Behavioural Neuroscience

Memory is pervasive. It permeates every aspect of our living, from being in love to being a witness. Despite wide acceptance that experiences during childhood and adolescence are critical in anxiety and drug use disorders, the existing research almost exclusively focuses on adulthood. Dr Kim believes the key to finding effective treatment lies in how we remember and forget emotionally significant events during our development. By using animal models, Jee Hyun’s research has identified that learning to fear or like something is similar during infancy to adulthood.
Dr Kim has given talks for TEDxMelbourne as well as numerous public lectures and talks. She is also the chair/coordinator of Australian-New Zealand Brain Bee Challenge, which aims to encourage science careers amongst school students.
