Dr. Shima Ziajahromi’s research focuses on understanding the quantity and fate of microplastics in wastewater treatment plants, their transport to aquatic and soil environments, and their toxic impacts on aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. She developed new methods to efficiently extract and identify microplastics, recognized by the WHO as among the most accurate methods worldwide. Shima’s research contributes to establishing regulations for microplastics in Australia to protect our ecosystems.
