Dr Richard Bade has developed methods to detect new psychoactive substances (NPS) in influent wastewater, which have been applied to sites across Australia as well as internationally.
These methods are very sensitive, allowing even trace levels of these compounds to be found. The results have acted as an early warning mechanism to inform health and government agencies and allow interventions to be implemented to reduce harm from the consumption of new psychoactive substances.
