Dr Chun Xu is a senior lecture and group leader in nanomaterials at the School of Dentistry, UQ.
His research utilises nanotechnology to create materials which help our bodies naturally regrow bone. These materials are designed with specialised functions, such as attracting stem cells and preventing bacterial growth. Stem cells then turn into bone cells and can repair bone defects. He also uses 3D printing method to print personalised scaffolds using those new materials to fit the size and shape for an easy handling and better result, by creating the right environment for our own cells to grow and regenerate.
