A/Prof Gary Sacks is a Heart Foundation Future Leader Fellow and A/Director of the Global Obesity
Centre (GLOBE) in the Institute for Health Transformation (IHT) at Deakin University. Gary’s research
aims to support governments and food company leaders to change their policies and practices so
that they can help improve population diets and prevent obesity.
Gary has generated new evidence that shows which policy options are likely to work best and how
much they might cost. He has also rated both governments and food companies in Australia on how
well their policies stack up against international public health recommendations. He has used this
research to campaign for change in Australia and globally.
This award recognises Gary’s dedication to communicating his research with the community through
extensive media engagement and collaboration with government policy makers.
