Professor Kylie Bal

Deakin University

Kylie researches Obesity and its implications for society. Obesity is recognised as a major threat to health. While we know that obesity is caused by consuming more food than we are burning through physical activity, we don’t yet have a good understanding of the underlying drivers of the obesity epidemic.

Her research aims to provide a more detailed understanding of the causes of obesity and the best ways to prevent it. She also examines why poor diets, sedentary lifestyles and obesity are more common amongst certain groups in society and how we might help promote healthier behaviour and reduce obesity in such groups.

Her research focuses specifically on understanding and promoting healthy eating and physical activity and preventing obesity, particularly in high-risk target groups such as young women and people who are socio-economically disadvantaged.
