Rob focuses on the effects of evolution on complex suites of traits, particularly those that make an individual attractive to members of the opposite sex.
Rob uses laboratory animals like crickets and guppies to understand how evolution shapes all animals. Recent research includes a study of the costs of being attractive, such as reduced lifespan; and the links between sexual attraction, diet, genes and ageing.
In 2009, Rob was an Associate Professor and Director of the UNSW Evolution & Ecology Research Centre.
