Associate Professor Andrew Bersten

Flinders University and Flinders Medical Centre

Andrew has made a major contribution to critical care medicine through his work on the treatment of severe cardiogenic pulmonary oedema, where he has demonstrated the benefits of applying continuous positive airway pressure by face mask. As a result, this treatment has been widely adopted. Andrew has also gained international recognition for his research, with Ian Doyle, on acute respiratory distress syndrome, and their world-leading research has significant implications for future treatment of this deadly disease.

Andrew was appointed Professor in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Flinders Univeristy and is the Director of the Intensive and Critical Care Unit at Flinders Medical Centre.
