Prof. Maria Kavallaris AM, BAppSc, PhD. joined the Australian Institute of Policy & Science board 29 November 2007.
She is Head of the Translational Cancer NanoMedicine Theme, Head of the Tumour Biology and Targeting Group and Executive Head of Research Engagement at the Children’s Cancer Institute and is a Founding Director of the Australian Centre for NanoMedicine, UNSW Sydney.
Her interdisciplinary research across medicine, biology, chemistry and materials science is nationally and internationally recognised.Her achievements have been recognised by numerous fellowships, awards including a Young Tall Poppy Award, Australian Museum Eureka Prize, 2017 NSW Premier’s Prize for Leadership in Innovation, and 2019 Lemberg Medal. Maria served as President of the Australian Society for Medical Research.
Maria was named an Australian Financial Review and Westpac 100 Women of Influence and the Knowledge Nation 100 in 2015. She is a Member of the Order of Australia and was named the 2020 NSW Woman of the Year.
She is a strong advocate for scientific research and promoting science education and brings these areas of expertise to the board.
